I only want you to be MY momma! Part 2© Heike Boehnke
I am well into my fifth month of pregnancy, and my daughter has accepted the fact that we CANNOT sell the baby on Ebay!
Having an “AP Toddler”, I have a well informed 4 year old. I already saved myself an “issue” at Pre-School, explaining to there teacher about the very descriptive books we are reading on pregnancy and child birth (see Part 1). This let her catch the “boy & girl sperm” explanations my daughter gave when someone asked her if she wanted a brother or sister! I am also letting her be an integral part of every stage of my pregnancy. When I went for an ultrasound to determine the due date, I called in advance to ask if I could bring her with me. They agreed, and off we went. The technician was great, explaining everything as we went along. My daughter commented, “ He looks like an Alien!” and when the baby started kicking, she said, “He is trying to get out!” It was a great experience for all of us, and it brought my daughter closer to her future sibling. We also took her to the Birth Center where we will have the baby for the “tour”. She got to see the Birthing Room and tub, the family room, and best of all, the Director has a daughter the same age! J. When I put her to bed that night, she explained that she would be in the living room watching T.V, but if I needed her, she would come and lay with me or sit in the tub with me…. So now my daughter is completely involved, and part of the Planning Committee. Nothing to do with the baby escapes her. From the decorating and reorganizing of “their” room, to the preparations and attendance at the Birth Center. She a saw a woman giving birth on T.V., and we talked about why she was screaming. She is working out all the aspects of this pregnancy on her own terms. She even has delegated a spot for her “little” toys that are dangerous for the baby. I am relieved, and proud that my daughter is able to understand this process, and that she comprehends the changes this new little human will bring to us. It will be a wonderful experience for the WHOLE family, and my growing belly is a welcome pillow for the Big Sister! Go To Page: 1
