Mommas on the Web!© Heike Boehnke
When I started researching the Internet for this article, I did not know how much it would enrich my own life! My initial search was to find information and resources for my own two “Home Careers,” Fantasy Fests! and Liimomma’s Originals. Not only did I find outstanding, unique businesses that are run by parents from home, I also found an assemblage of talented, supportive people that are always willing to help each other with their advice. Some even offer a barter of services if you are on a tight budget. This article is dedicated to these businesses, and will offer you a chance to experience the future, as our society is gearing up for the new millenium with a new attitude. More and more people are working from home, and the numbers are increasing rapidly.
These businesses were not just formed so parents “could stay home” with their children. Many are dreams come true, or started out of desperation and need for a certain product. When I asked about the stories behind the names, I received incredible documentations - gripping, sad, amazing, and some where I asked myself why I never thought of that! Time and space will not permit that I share all of these stories with you, so I have created a link dedicated to “Mommas on the Web” with descriptions, so you can find what you need or gather information. The owner of the PeaVine, Paula, is one of the extraordinary people I would meet. She has a memorial on her web site, dedicated to her stillborn son, Kadin. Where this kind of tragic experience leaves many unable to function and cope, she has turned it into an inspiration. She hopes to call out to other parents who are grieving the death of a child, and offers support and an outlet for their pain and anger: “Grief Journals.” Many of the objects offered at the “PeaVine” have a very spiritual meaning. She offers them in honor of both her “Little Pea,” Alexandria, and in memory of Kadin. Her story brought tears to my eyes, and I find her strength amazing.
