Our Place in the Universe (II)

The fact is that, in the block universe, fatalism is not the default position - in fact, there is no default position. All human emotions and knowledge are contained in the block universe. It contains our belief in fatalism, as well as our hopes, dreams, and the actions we take on their behalf. All our decisions are contained within it.

That is why "free will vs determinism" is a false debate. Both concepts have connotations which do not exist - all that exists is structures of matter regulated by natural law. The real question is how much natural law and human psychology allows us to take control and responsibility for our decisions and actions.

Fatalism is not any more the default than non-existence is the default in cosmological arguments. Both concepts are contradictory. Christians only believe in those concepts because they assume they are right and that the universe revolves around their beliefs.

Some people ask me why I talk against Christians so much. If I didn't, I would be giving the impression that I accept the theological worldview, and that I have no objection against it. But the theological worldview is, in virtually all cases, completely contrary to both common sense and logic. It must be spoken against with vigor, as a vicious trap against human cognition.

What is the tally ? There are two main conceptions of our place in the universe. God-belief means that human beings have no individual reasonability, because God commands, permits and justifies all actions. The universe is based on acausal factors - God's will and the human soul - which eliminated the possibility of laws. If we are outside of spacetime, then we can have no causal relations with objects of knowledge, and we can't know. No responsibility, no law, no values, no knowledge, no purpose, no understanding, no hope. That is the consequence of god-belief. It's not hard to see why Christians are more immoral, criminal, ignorant and desperate than atheists.

But if the universe is atheistic, material, naturalistic, then we can find the laws that regulate it, predict, know, have values, because :

Nothing can move in spacetime. No sky-fairy can move things in spacetime, no soul is floating around moving things in spacetime, no "love energy" is moving things in spacetime. Everything exists within the fabric of natural law... but even to say that is a misunderstanding. Everything is natural law and everything is material.
