Interstellar Medium, Part IV, Ionized Gaspart series on the Interstellar Medium. Our understanding of nearly every other galaxy relies on the our understanding of our own Galactic ISM, and is exactly this understanding that often forms the nuts and bolts of more ambitious calculations. We still have much to learn about the ISM, however, principally how stars form, how elemental abundances correspond to our understanding of stellar evolution, and whether or not our Galaxy continues to grow its ISM by accreting gas. Intense effort in the future will concentrate on solving such problems.
