Be a Fool
Like the fool in the tarot deck, those of us who are under the influence of Uranus are off on a journey. We are full of ideals with our eyes aimed upwards towards the heavens, and we are about to receive a rude surprise. Yet this surprise will serve to wake us up to new possibilities and bring us closer to inner wisdom we were seeking when we looked heavenward in the first place. Paradoxically, being a fool can be a path to wisdom.
How much of a fool are you? If you want to get to know your inner fool, take a look at where Uranus falls in your chart. If you have a strong Uranus (meaning that Uranus is angular in your chart, or conjunct the sun or moon, or in close conjunction to several planets), chances are your "foolish" nature has made itself apparent. Wherever Uranus falls, you are spontaneous, risk-loving, eccentric, even rebellious.
On the other hand, if you have the planet Saturn strongly configured in your chart, you might have a difficult time accessing your inner fool. The childlike and playful spirit of the fool might be a stranger to you. This is because Saturn symbolizes many of the opposite qualities of Uranus. Where Uranus promotes freedom, Saturn stands for established order. Saturn sets up limits in our lives; Uranus breaks them. Saturn is a planet of law; Uranus is the planet of the rebel. Saturn would never leave on a journey without a plan; Uranus will go wherever impulse takes him.
If Uranus and Saturn are in challenging aspect in your chart -- that is, in square or opposition to each other -- you will experience on an inner level the fight between reality vs. intuition. authority vs. rebellion, limits vs. freedom. You will also have the opportunity of combining the strengths of both of these planets in your life.
All the outer planets in astrology have their destructive side. Uranus is like an earthquake -- it strikes unexpectedly and when the shaking is done we look around and see rubble. Yet when you clear rubble away, what do you have? You have space and freedom to build something new. And you have an opportunity to develop trust in your inner wisdom. That is the ultimate purpose of Uranus. It shakes us up and shakes us out of our rut.
