If you've ever bought a house, you are familiar with the phrase, "Location, location, location." Location is the usually the number one concern of someone looking for a place to live and put down roots.
When we go in search of a home, all of our primary needs are engaged. Home means comfort and safety and a haven from life's storms. But more than that, a home is a sanctuary where we explore our innermost selves, where we can let down our masks, where we engage in our most intimate relationships, where we can love and be loved. When we select the site for our new home, we are looking for a place where we will feel a sense of security, of things being "right." We instinctively know that home is the base on which the rest of our life will be built. Finding a home is never a search to be taken lightly. But what about your "home" in a larger sense? Does the place where you live make a difference beyond your day-to-day life? Have you ever wondered if your location can impact your spiritual life? Can moving change your life's purpose? Astrology says yes, it can. A special branch of astrology - called Relocational Astrology - explores what happens to your chart - and your life - when you move to a new home. As a working astrologer, I often see the impact a move can have on a person's life. And my own family has given me plenty of opportunity to study this subject as well. They are a "moving" bunch - most have gone from one coast to the other and a couple were even born in other countries and then returned to the United States. Now, it is true that astrologers debate how much of an impact a relocated chart has. Some say that the birth chart always remains the primary chart. This is undoubtedly true to the extent that the birth chart determines the main potentials of the personality. However, I don't think anyone would argue that every birth chart contains some potentials that are never expressed, some that are expressed well and some that are expressed poorly. Studying why this happens and how to bring out the best in a chart is one of the highest callings of an astrologer. Can moving change the expression of the potentials in the birth chart? Can we bring out some of our innate gifts and repress others by our location?
