The Astrological Seventh House
Are you ready to have a good look into the Seventh House? This is a good question to ask because this house reflects back to us everything that we don't recognise in ourselves - the good, the bad and the ugly! By examining the symbolism found here we have the opportunity to view what we have not yet integrated into ourselves - our shadow qualities. Traditionally the Seventh House represents the marriage or business partner, cooperation - and its lack, open enemies, legal contracts, court trials, formalities and our ability to get along with others. It is also known as the Descendant. The Seventh is opposite the First House: therefore the Seventh is the furthest from the First out of all the houses. In the Sixth House we found our boundaries, learnt to look after our bodies and found out how we work with others and perform our duties. The symbolism in the Seventh House shows us what type of qualities we find in other people in a one-on-one situation, how we approach marriage or business partnerships, how we experience our enemies, and the qualities we seek in a partner. Let's have a look at an example of Seventh House symbolism - we'll take a look at the Moon. The Moon is associated with feeling, women, the home, mother, the unconscious, nurturing and fluctuation. Mixing these themes with the Seventh House ones does offer a wide variety of interpretation. Since the Seventh House is associated with our experience of other people we may tend to see those around us as being motherly, nurturing, changeable (like the Moon itself), caring and sometimes illogical. In a partnership situation nurturing may be an important element between the individuals involved - the person with the Seventh House Moon may carry unconscious issues involving one of the parents (most probably mother) into a marriage. The Moon represents fluctuation, so a person with this placement may find that their feelings towards others, particularly partners, change frequently. When meeting this symbolism through projection an individual may feel uncomfortable in dealing with the emotions of other people or envy the ease in which others express their feelings. In most of the personalised charts I have prepared, the Seventh House Moon often indicates that the individual felt the mother, or nurturing parent, was somehow out of reach or 'disconnected' from them. This early relationship with the mothering figure naturally would impact on the person's own ability to relate to their own emotional nature.
