Terms Used in Asperger's SyndromeWhen I first started researching Asperger's Syndrome, I came across so many words that I couldn't understand and ended up doing searches on those words just so I could comprehend the article I was reading at the time. Even the diagnostic criteria was difficult to wade through and interpret in plain english. The following list is a collection of words that are commonly used to describe other conditions found in Asperger's children or treatment programs and some links to web sites to help you in your search for information. ABA - Applied Behaviour Analysis-this is a treatment program designed especially for a particular child's behaviour problems. http://www.isn.net/~jypsy/aba.htm Apraxia - This is a motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for children to pronounce sounds. http://tayloredmktg.com/dyspraxia/das.ht... Ataxia - This is a condition in which the child's balance and depth perception are disturbed. http://www.ataxia.org/ CAPD - Central Auditory Processing Disorder - difficulty processing sounds, listening to and interpreting them. http://www.ldonline.org/ld_indepth/proce... Lovaas Therapy - Behaviour modification treatment plan. http://www.lovaas.com/ NLD or Non Verbal Learning Disorder - This is a neurological syndrome very similar to Asperger's Syndrome.
