Can Vaccine Damage Cause Asperger's Syndrome?A few weeks after receiving a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome for my son, I went through a stage of trying to find out what caused it. There is a well known suspicion that the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine causes autism with many reports by parents validating this suspicion. I searched for symptoms of vaccine damage but didn't make a connection between what other parents reported with anything that happened to my child in his early years. When I stumbled across a site recently at: http://www.trufax.org/m3v2/vacc2.html which sugggests that vaccine damage can occur without those obvious symptoms immediately happening after a vaccination, I suddenly realized that my son's difficulties could well be tied to his vaccinations. Although he didn't have high pitched screaming, convulsions, vomiting or diarrhea, other symptoms occurred for which we never received an explanation. My son's first vaccination went smoothly, no reaction at all unless you take into account that shortly after that he had unexplained bleeding in his bowel movements for six months, developed colic and was very gassy. The second vaccination produced a slight fever and crankiness. The third vaccination produced a higher fever, crankiness, swollen leg and extreme gassiness. The fourth vaccination was the one that did him in, I think. It was the HIB shot. I can remember all the things he went through in the year following this shot and had no idea that some of his problems were due to damage caused by the vaccine. He had five throat infections in a row, hung his head and drooled constantly. I suspect he had epiglottis, which is what the HIB shot is supposed to prevent. He developed a glassy-eyed stare, one eye went crossed, he started choking when drinking, developed asthma, hives, acid reflux and his teeth turned an odd shade of grey. He became a chronically ill child suffering some sort of viral infection every three weeks with asthma and allergic reactions in between for years after this shot. The doctors I spoke to regarding my son's chronic ill health all explained that some children just have a depressed immune system and he would eventually outgrow it. Thankfully, he has outgrown the asthma (touch wood) and most of the time he is healthy now, however, when I look back, if I knew then what I know now I would have never given him those shots. As for the long term effects of vaccine damage, well, Asperger's could be one of them. Certainly his eye problem, lack of muscle control and inability to feel pain, hunger or his own feelings can be related to vaccine damage.
