ASA Visits Historic South BostonThe American Speed Association (ASA) returns to action April 6 and 7 at South Boston Speedway and at least two teams will have a new drivers behind the wheel. In the case of the Go Go Motorsports #11 entry, however, the driver may be different but he certainly isn't new. During the off season, the team made some business decisions that caused a split with driver Tristan Dupuis and recently announced that their new driver would be veteran Mike Eddy. The Wal Tom Racing team will also have a new driver at South Boston. They have named veteran driver Robbie Pyle to take over the controls of the #63 from rookie Brian Schwartz, who will drive in selected events as a part of his learning curve. Schwartz will also take over as car chief, while getting adjusted to this higher level of racing action. The team is building a second car for Schwartz, who will go full-time on the ASA circuit next season. South Boston is an old line Virginia speedway that dates back almost 60 years. While this is the first visit to South Boston Speedway for ASA, it has hosted Busch Series races and seen current stars such as Jeff Burton, Ward Burton, Stacy Compton and Elliott Sadler come home as South Boston winners. Now the stars of ASA will have their chance to shine at this historic track. South Boston Speedway officials announced that Ward Burton, who began his racing career at South Boston will attend the race. While it hasn't been announced, speculation is that Burton may not just attend the Textilease Medique 300, but may take the wheel of one of the cars and drive in the event as well. The 100 lap qualifying race for the ASA cars will be held on Friday, April 6th with the Textilease Medique 300 to be run on Saturday, April 7th at 9:00 pm. As an added bonus for fans, the Late Model Stock cars will also be in action on Saturday evening with their race scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm. In my next report, I'll bring you the results of the Textilease Medique 300 as well as the latest news from the ASA circuit and ARCA circuits.
