ARCA TrucksWe all know what the NASCAR drivers do during the off season. They test and make appearances, Right? Well, the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series drivers do the same thing. That's right, even though they don't make the money or have the sponsor dollars that NASCAR does, they still spend their off season drumming up business for their sponsors and for ARCA racing in general. One such driver is Robbin Slaughter, driver of the #6 Ford Truck. Slaughter won four races during the 2000 season on his way to the points championship and now is spending his time touring the country. In December he was at the Performance Racing Trade Show in Indianapolis, then in February it's off to Daytona for the Circle Track Trade Show during Speedweek. In addition his truck will make appearances in Columbus, Ohio, and Lancaster, Ohio. Slaughter, who owns the truck as well as drives it works two jobs to be able to keep up his "racing habit", and his crew spends countless hours getting the truck ready for these shows, sees them as an opportunity to show off ARCA Truck racing, as well as give the public a view of his pride and joy. He also has attended awards banquets in Michigan and Ohio. According to Slaughter, "It is an honor to attend these events and be recognized for our accomplishments by different segments of the racing community." Between appearances, Slaughter and his crew are busy getting ready for the 2001 season. Operating as a small, independent team, they always are looking for sponsors to help keep them on the track during the year. One of Slaughter's dreams is to get enough sponsorship that he can settle into only one job and therefore have more time in the garage getting the truck ready to race and win. In Slaughter's words, "We really want to make a solid run at the 2001 championship." If the 2000 season is any indication, Robbin Slaughter will have his red #6 in top form, and should be a favorite to repeat as the Lincoln Welders Truck Series champion for a second year in a row. For those of you who have never seen these trucks race, head out to a track near you and enjoy the action.
