Butch Miller Wins at IndianapolisASA (American Speed Association) Update Indianapolis Raceway Park saw Veteran driver Butch Miller lead 172 of the 200 laps in the ASA 200. Miller, a three time ASA, champion dominated the race from the start and clearly had the best car in the 43 car field. It was his 41st career ASA victory. By winning in such a dominating manner, Miller prevented season points leader Gary St.Amant from clinching the championship. St. Amant currently leads Kevin Cywinski by 334 points. Rookie of the year favorite Joey Clanton finished 8th in the race with his closest competitor in the Rookie of the Year chase, Robbie Pyle finishing in 9th. Although Miller dominated the race, at the checkered flag his lead had dwindled to a mere .709 seconds over 2nd place finisher Tim Sauter. This was because of a late race checkered flag due to an accident involving IRL driver Mark Dismore and Ted Smokstad. On the restart, however Miller was able to take advantage of his stronger car and hold off the challenge of Sauter and 3rd place finisher Kevin Cywinski. Next week the ASA heads for Winchester Speedway for the Winchester 400. Winchester is one of the most historic tracks in the country and the return of ASA racing to it's half mile high banks is good news for race fans. Speaking of fans, the ASA has opened a newly designed posting board that has a lot of great interaction between fans. Everything from discussions of track facilities on the ASA trail, to comments on individual drivers and races is included. If you're wanting a special place to post questions to other ASA fans, check them out. ARCA (Automobile Racing Clubs of America) Update The ARCA circuit was idle this week in preparation for the EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 100 at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. In the race for the season points championship, Frank Kimmel continues to lead and could wrap up the crown with a win at Lowes. In early practice for the race, a legendary name in stock car history was in the news, as Jason Jarrett, newest driver in the Jarrett family line, posted the fastest time, followed by 22 year old engineering student and winner at Pocono and Kentucky Ryan Newman. Newman has made only 3 ARCA starts in his young career and won two of them. I think this is a rookie to keep an eye on for the future. Who knows, he might make it three in a row. I guess we'll have to wait and see next week.
