ARCA/ASA News UpdatesARCA (Auto Racing Clubs of America) News Briefs Fans who attend the Eddie Gilstrap Motors ARCA 200 at Salem Speedway, Salem, Indiana, will be in for a special treat on September 10, since NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader has entered his Federated Auto Parts Monte Carlo in the race. Because of prior a commitment to NASCAR , he will have Bill Kimmel qualify the car. Schrader, an experienced ARCA driver as well, has won seven ARCA races during his career. He is scheduled to drive in the NASCAR race held on September 9, in Richmond, Virginia. Saturday night, August 12, Frank Kimmel took the lead with five laps to go and won the Astral Carrier 250 at Winchester Speedway. The race, one of the closest in Winchester history, saw 10 lead changes as Kimmel outdistanced Brian Ross and Tracy Leslie for his 21st ARCA victory of his career. Next on the ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hide schedule is the only non-pavement race on the schedule, the PAR-A-DICE 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. The race which is run on the one-mile clay track has long been a favorite of the fans and drivers alike, since it gets back to the Mid-Western dirt track roots of stock car racing. The race will be held on Sunday, August 20, and will be televised by Speedvision on a delayed basis. The ARCA Points Standings for the season show Frank Kimmel in the lead with 2845 points, followed by Bob Strait (2745), Tim Steele (2690), Brian Ross (2585) and Andy Belmont (2460). ASA (American Speed Association) News Briefs Fans at Hawkeye Downs Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, saw Mike Garvey dominate the field on August 12, in the Iowa 250. Garvey took the lead on lap 96 and continued to lead for the final 155 laps of the race. He pitted only once and ran the entire race, as he had planned, on one set of Goodrich T/A Racing Radials. It was his third win of the season, and his second this year at Hawkeye Downs. Next up on the ASA schedule is the ACDelco Factory Motor Parts 300, from Madison International Speedway, on August 19. The race will be televised on TNN at 8:00 p.m. Central time. This is the first time since 1993 that ASA has visited the Madison track, and it should prove to be an exciting evening of racing. In other ASA news, veteran driver Glenn Allen, Jr. has signed on for the remainder of the season to drive the #4 GM Service Plus Pontiac. The last few years, he has been driving a Busch car on the NASCAR circuit. His last full ASA season, 1995, he finished second in the season points standings to Bryan Reffner. It's good to see Glenn back in ASA.
