As winter draws to a close, I am drawn more and more to the outdoors. I love watching the crocuses poke their heads through the snow. Each year I eagerly await the first buds of springtime. Vibrant tulips, cheerful daffodils, colorful bearded irises and sassy pansies draw me into the sunlight. Fruit trees covered in flower blossoms make me want to dance and twirl around in celebration like a child; daisies make me want to smile; while roses overwhelm me with their lovely fragrance.
Each year as spring color overrides the grayness of winter, I want to decorate my home with pastel flowered prints. My wardrobe too takes on lighter, softer hues. I feel revived, more alive than I have for months and perhaps this is unique to me, but I’m ready for a trip to the museum to celebrate the change of season by viewing the art I love. Artists such as Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Vincent van Gogh, all make my spirits rise with their paintings of flowers. Celebrate with me as I take you on a tour of art passionate about springtime. Claude Monet – Monet loved his gardens at Giverny. He drew joy and comfort from being outdoors surrounded by the beauty of the seasons. In "Spring at Giverny" I can almost feel the winds of springtime, the coolness of the air as the countryside begins to move out of winter into the new season. http://www.kreegermuseum.com/content/mon... Monet’s brushstrokes capture the freshness and freedom of the natural world. When I view "Garden at Giverny, Irises," I want to walk through the field of irises and gather some in my arms to bring inside with me. http://www.expo-monet.com/1_3.cfm?id=157... In "Poppies near Argenteuil," that is exactly what the little girl in the painting has done. http://www.expo-monet.com/1_3.cfm?id=-20... Vincent Van Gogh – Van Gogh too loved the Irises. I could gaze at his irises all year. http://www.about-van-gogh-art.com/van-go... Van Gogh’s irises are famous as well as abundant, but don’t miss some of his lesser known works such as "Pink Peach Tree in Blossom." I love the sweetness of the tree in full bloom. http://www.about-van-gogh-art.com/van-go... I never knew there was such beauty in a stalk of wheat until I viewed "Green Ears of Wheat." http://www.vangoghgallery.com/painting/p... Georgia O’Keeffe – Talk about a celebration of color! http://www.happyshadows.com/okeeffe/redc... http://www.ccsd.edu/link/ART/art%20sm1.j... http://www.happyshadows.com/okeeffe/orie... Take some time for yourself this spring. Stop and smell the flowers. Spend an hour of your life in a rose garden. You might even be inspired to pick up a paintbrush yourself and try your hand at capturing a bit of nature’s springtime celebration. Go To Page: 1
