Rembrandt and SaskiaSaskia with their child: http://sunsite.dk/cgfa/rembrand/p-rembra... Rembrandt and Saskia only had eight years together. They had four children, only one of whom survived. Saskia died when she was merely thirty years old. I believe had she lived longer, Rembrandt would have continued to paint her realistically as she aged. In studying his paintings of her, I believe he loved her dearly, loved her for who she was and painted her likeness as a reflection of that love. Call me a romantic perhaps, but study these paintings yourself and see what conclusion they bring you to.
