Five Senses: Inspirational and Motivational

© Karen Wynn

This month I will start a five part theme on using the five senses to create works of art and writing. The five senses are Hearing, Sight, Smell, Taste, and Touch. All animals have these sense organs to survive in life. Now, due to a disability you may be lacking one or more senses, such as hearing. The remaining senses however compensate for lost senses, your sight is greater if you are hearing impaired. We often take our senses for granted. In art and writing, the five senses can be inspirational and motivational. This month we will examine Hearing and use this wonderful sense to create.

For most of us, hearing is a part of our lives. Birds chirping, horns beeping, and rock music blaring come to us through a vital sense that often we tend to neglect when it comes to being creative. So, what I want you to do is listen, listen to your favorite music, be it jazz or rock and roll. Listen to nature: birds chirping, or a stream running. Or listen to people talking. Pick one subject mentioned above, music, nature or talking. Now, involve yourself for an hour in one of these activies. Listen to music, sit and hear the birds chirping, a stream running, or people talking. After an hour of this activity, reflect on what you just did. How can you use this to create a poem or short story, or a painting, drawing, etc. Think!!! Let your hearing inspire and motivate you. Write or draw with sounds, and be amaze at what you can create.

Happy Mothers Day to all!!. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day.
