Many people with disabilities have special talents that they neglect due to society views. People with disabilities often are angry or depressed. Writing and Art can be postive feelings that express anger and depression. The negative energy can be transformed into a postive energy with writing and art. I have worked with the mentally retarded for 20 years. A theory that was implemented in the late 1970's was a concept called normalization,created by a swedish social educator in 1955. America began using normalization to provide the mentally retarded a chance to fit into the mainstream of society. With deinstitutionalization happening rapidly from 1975 to 1979,the mentally retarded were being placed in community living areas instead of warehoused in state institutions,the idea of giving the retarded value in society caught on quickly.

Normalization is refer to social integration today. The idea is to make the mentally retarded person a valuable part of society. Though,intellectually they have boundaries,their emotional,social,educational,and psychological level can reach a higher potential with the proper encouragment. Social valorization is part of the social integration process. Social valorization is a person value and how society values that person. Social valorization is not recent,it mainly applies to minorities including the disabled. What is your value?,are you a value to society?, these are questions you can ask yourself. Do you have a high opinion of yourself?

You may have answer yes,I have a high opinion of myself. But, for many people with disabilities their self worth and self esteem is low. Consider the statistics,half of people with disabilities live on government assistance. Fifty percent of people with disabilities live near the poverty level. Five percent of people with disabilities make their home in prison. This is pretty bleak facts. Many people who have disabilities are angry,depressed,frustrated,or full of contempt towards a society that ridicules and places barriers up. All their energy is being wasted. Negative energy that spreads like cancer until it destroys.

The Romans called the mentally retarded,developmentally disabled,physically disabled,mentally ill,and medically ill, Cretins. The word Cretins was derived from the Christians. The Christians unlike the Romans believed all people had value. So while the Romans tortured and killed the Cretins,the Christians attempted to save them from their cruel fate. Through the years the Christians managed to protect the Cretins and make them a vital part of society. Christians thought God had a purpose for all human beings. Each and every person should be valued because we all our Gods' children. Many religions believe in this same pratice of valuing all people. Through the years most people tried to accept difference. The Christians and others adapted an asian method of channelling,ying and yang is the most common
