Make an Aroma-Stick

Make an Aroma-Stick

What if you could take the power of Aromatherapy where ever you wish? Well a homemade aroma stick can be just the answer. While you may say to yourself, why don’t I just pop a bottle of essential oil in my purse, it is unlikely you could use it safely straight from the bottle. Essential oils need to be highly diluted. Something many people forget. Even commercially pre-diluted essential oils need to be further diluted if they are to be applied to the skin. Straight from the bottle whiffs, for an Olfactory stimulating effect, may be fine but many people are starting to discover the power essential oils have when applied to the skin. Not only this, many wish to use essential oils as a natural form of bug repellent or on their pressure points for a therapeutic effect. This means an application is needed. With a hard perfume consistency aroma stick, you will find a very versatile way of using essential oils safely.

The ingredients are rather simple. You need to amass the essential oil and/or blends you wish to use. You then need a base oil such as sweet almond. Next, you need a stabilizer such as natural bees wax or cocoa butter. Melt the stabilizer material with your oil in a double boiler (one pot filled with boiling water with another put placed inside with the ingredients cooking) until fully liquefied. If you don’t have wax, oil, etc., you can buy a lip balm (without color), scoop it out and melt it down. You may be able to do this in your microwave. Save the container as you can reuse it. Once in a liquid state, turn the heat off. Quickly add your essential oil(s) and pour it into either the empty lip balm container(s) or in an empty tea box lined in aluminum foil. The tea box works great for larger batches. Allow to cool in the refrigerator. Once fully set up, cut into blocks (be sure to wrap them in aluminum foil) or turn the dial on the lip balm container to extrude enough of the stick to apply it or smell.

You can lightly apply some under your nose for an Olfactory stimulating effect (rose, etc.). You can apply it to your wrists to help cool you (peppermint, etc.). You can use it as a bug repellent (lavender, etc.). You can use it on your lips (chamomile, etc.) You will only be limited by your imagination. The best part is you can feel safer in that you are not
