Make a Bath Diffuser

Make a Bath Diffuser

This easy to create diffuser works in two key ways. On an Aromatherapy scale it will fill your bath area with the scent of essential oils, to set the mood that you wish. They can also help calm or energize, depending on the oils chosen. On the other side, this bath item will diffuse essential oils into your bath water. This creates a truly holistic experience that can do real wonders for both body and mind. Especially in this time of changing weather which may result in immune system problems.

The diffuser consists simply of a cloth (cotton) or silk bag which holds herbs, essential oils, soap and natural preservatives. This is hung so that it swings under the faucet of your bathtub. When extremely hot water flows through the bag, both the water and the air is infused with essential oils. To create this marvelous bath bag, likely unable to be bought today, you will need the following:

- Cheese cloth, cotton cloth or silk

- Twine, ribbon, etc.

- Dried rose petals, lavender, rosemary, etc.

- Kosher course salt, sandalwood chips, orriss root (be careful, this can cause allergic reactions), etc.

- Essential oils (the most important part!)

-Soap (grated)

First, take the fabric of your choice and mound the ingredients in the center. About one cup should be used in each bag. Next add the soap which should equal the total amount of the herbal ingredients. You may wish to store this mixture in a glass container for a couple of weeks so they can merge together and become a real synergy. Close the fabric around the herbs (easily done with the draw string bags used in cooking with herbs) and hang from the faucet. To use, run very hot water and breath in the infused steam that results. Once the bath has cooled to a comfortable temperature, enter and experience essential oils safely infused in the water. This bath bag can actually be used a number of times as the sandalwood, orris root, etc., acts as a natural preservative and prevents mold from forming.

These bath bags make interesting and very useful gifts. They can be customized to fit your needs or the needs of the receiver. Add essential oil of lavender and lavender flowers to create a very calming blend. Add essential oil of vanilla and ylang ylang for a very exotic blend. Kill germs and chase away colds with a blend of eucalyptus and rosemary. One warning, do not use commercial potpourri blends. Only use pure dried herbs, herbal teas even. Commercial potpourri contains chemicals which should not be used on the skin.
