Create an Aromatherapy First Aid Kit

Aromatherapy First Aid Kit

Why simply have a medical “First Aid Kit” when you can have a herbal and Aromatherapy kit as well? Some even have a Homeopathic First Aid Kit. Remember that pure essential oils (not fragrance oils), like herbs, have the ability to aid in the healing of a number of conditions. This is done not simply via smell. Instead, the essential oils are topically applied depending on the condition. Essential oils are basically concentrated herbs, like you would find in a tincture. Countless people are missing out on the benefits of essential oils because of the perceived view that essential oils are only useful for mood enhancement and perfumes. Many essential oils also have the added advantage of killing germs, purifying the air and more.

It is very prudent that everyone has a chest with important essential oils locked away, always at the ready. While many involved in Aromatherapy will suggest 10 or 20 must have essential oils, your first aid kit can contain as little as 3 and still be extremely useful. You can also create some of your own products by blending essential oils and/or botanicals together. Remember that when you are blending essential oils together (to form a synergy) for medicinal purposes, you are doing so to heighten the desired healing effect of each botanical. Your goal is not to create a pleasant smelling perfume which is another form of synergistic blending using notes. Many think that Aromatherapy automatically equals pleasant aromas. Garlic oil and tea tree certainly will not smell very pleasant yet this combinations ability to kill fungus is superb.

To create your special first aid kit, try to assemble as many of the suggested items as possible. One of the most important is a good metal or wooden box to house your kit. It is very important that your essential oils are kept away from light (especially sunlight), dampness and extreme heat. This will cause them to deteriorate faster and be of little use to you. Clearly mark on this box Aromatherapy or Essential Oil First Aid Kit. The 3 major essential oils to stock will be:

  • Lavender
  • Eucalyptus
  • Tea Tree

These essential oils are likely the most universal in their ability to aid the body. They can aid with colds, wounds, bruises, insect bites, muscle pain, fungal infections and much more. They also can be administered in a number of ways including directly from the bottle, in aloe vera gel, a carrier (base) oil, steam bath, compress and more. They are also great to wear each day to help prevent falling ill, especially as the seasons change and our immune systems are taxed. If you would like to add additional essential oils to your kit, you may wish to include rosemary, peppermint, orange, geranium and lemon. Your Aromatherapy First Aid Kit should also include carrier oils to mix your essential oils in, aloe vera gel, vitamin E and garlic oil which can be created by mixing garlic cloves with vegetable or sweet almond oil. With such a kit, you will feel more confident in your ability to keep your family well.
