Relaxing Your Child

Relaxing Your Child

How many parents dread nap or bed time in our society? The fights, the tantrums, the procrastination of children not wishing to take a rest can be nerve wrecking. Taking naps and getting proper sleep has time and again been shown to be very important to a child's health a well being. Including aiding in growth and proper development. Many children have a special toy or blanket, even a piece of clothing that gives them comfort. Especially at bedtime. Why not turn this "special friend" into a tool in helping your child calm down and take the rest they need. The main reason children don't want to go to sleep is a fear they will miss something fun. Be it a cartoon or toy. Toys being misplaced or lost other fears of the young child and a reason why they should be responsible for putting away their own things. Once these anxieties are calmed, they are more apt to do what you say.

Lavender is a wonderful essential oil to use on children. It is likely you have heard this before. This is because lavender is gentle, non-toxic and extremely relaxing. A few drops can be placed on a small area of a child's toy or blanket. That is if it is cloth or foam. Plastic items wouldn't work very well. This will subtly draw your child to sleep. Placing a few drops of oil in a child's bedding can also work wonders as well as washing clothing and linens with a little bit of lavender. Dried lavender in herbal form can work just as well, especially inside of a small pillow or toy.

Another bastion of headaches can be the bathtub. While some children love to play in the water, others can't stand it. For whatever reason, the key is trying to keep your child calm. Allowing arguments and tantrums can ruin the evening for all of you. Once again essential oils may be used, all be it carefully. Never add the essential oils, no matter how gentle people tell you they are, directly (or neat) to the bath water. Instead dilute it in a bit of oil such as vegetable. Chamomile and lavender either alone or together works very well in such a situation. Even a bit of rose for girls is nice and calming. If you are to place the bath blend in a fancy bottle (many of which can be found inexpensively at craft stores), only to be added to the child's bath, you may be highly surprised how enjoyable bath time becomes. Children feel extremely special when there is pomp and circumstance, even a bit of mystery afforded them.
