Aromatic Kisses

For many women, wearing a full face of makeup isn't possible. Skin sensitivities or even a lack of time may leave only enough time to wash our faces let alone get made up. However, products, made naturally at least, can be very protective and should be utilized, especially in regards to the threat of skin cancer which comes from repeated exposure to UV rays. Our delicate lip skin can easily become parched, cracked and really show age. The sun can play a factor in this, in addition to the evils of smoking and lack of proper water intake. Even some cheaply created, chemical filled lipsticks can be the culprit.

A perfect way to prevent lip damage is to use a lip-gloss or salve which contains either herbs &/or essential oils. Essential oils are exactly like herbs and may usually be used in the same way except they are so much more user friendly. Hence why they are perfect, in small amounts, for addition into lip protectors. Be mindful, however, that essential oils that may have phototoxic effects should not be used on the lips when there is a possibility of sun exposure (such as on out door outings, the beach, etc.).

It is extremely easy not to mention comforting to apply natural lip-gloss throughout the day, especially if you are feeling under the weather. In such cases, peppermint lip salve does wonders. Before getting the ingredients to make your own amassed, figure which will better meet your needs. A more liquid gloss or a thick, more staying salve. Once you have done this, look about your kitchen for an essential oil that meets yours needs, some vitamin E oil and olive oil, a bit of honey and if you like some color, smidgen of old lipstick, rouge or eye shadow. Mix and gently heat all of the above ingredients together. This may be achieved using your microwave or an extremely small, porcelain-covered pot as I have long used. Some also prefer a double boiler. This will make a very nice, liquid gloss which appears shiny. Kids may find it fun to add loose glitter even or pieces of rose petals.

To make a more stable salve, add a natural thickener such as cocoa butter or bees wax. The cocoa butter is very easy to use and incorporate, not to mention very hard to add too much which many find as a major downfall with bees wax. Adding to much bees wax can turn your lip balm into a lip candle.
