Essential Oils at the Gym

It's a fact: the majority of American's do not get enough exercise. Lack of exercise is the main cause of being overweight, which can in turn lead to many adverse health problems. Why do people not enjoy or feel motivated to exercise? It's simple, because it's not easy. Exercise is hard work and draining. The gym makes things a bit easier by inspiring you to use the various fun looking machines, such as the stationary bike and treadmill. In addition, aerobic classes can even help tech you to defend yourself now-a-days by combining martial arts and boxing. Still, we all need further motivation and care. Like a day care center, filled with toys that are constantly touched by numerous children, you have no idea which equipment was touched by a sick user. Germs can adhere to handrails for hours, infecting you in return. What about the changing area with showers and lockers? What about the sauna or flooring? All havens for germs and bacteria.

While you may feel like dousing yourself in disinfectant spray, you can do much better by way of creating a barrier to protect yourself using essential oils. All will think you're wearing a new perfume, but in reality you'll be keeping yourself protected and healthier. Not to mention more uplifted and rejuvenated by the essential oils refreshing and invigorating effect. Here are the top ways of easily adding essential oils to your workout routine:

  • In your locker...
    Take some cotton or a napkin and put a few drops of essential oil of Lavender or Peppermint on it. Place it in your locker along with your gym bag and other items. You can also put a few drops of essential oil on your towel as well.
  • In the shower...
    Take an essential oil mist (15 drops per cup of spring water, placed in a clean sprat bottle) and spray yourself, the floor of the shower and the area inside. You can also used body washes, which contain real essential oils. Good ones to look for include Tea Tree to kill fungus and germs.
  • On the exercise floor...
    Before using the exercise equipment, spray your hands with the same mist you created for the shower area. You can also suspend the essential oils in some aloe vera gel for a non-greasy hand and body rub. After doing your various exercises (or each set), use the mist to spray yourself from head to toe. This will help dissipate sweat, keeping you smelling fresh and deodorized and also invigorated, especially if you use an oil such as Peppermint or Orange.
