Aromatherapy for the Web Junky

Web surfing has become a popular pastime all over the world... more interactive compared to TV and less tiresome compared to reading a book, it has become so with good reason. Unfortunately, the glare of the monitor can cause havoc on yours eyes and the constant sitting can create back and neck problems you never knew you had. This is made worse when your surfing is part of your job. Many telecommuters work much harder as it seems they can never fully leave their work behind. Essential oils can actually help in a number of ways. It will depend on what your major problem &/or goal with using the Internet is. The main uses include:
  • Talking with friends (chat rooms, ICQ, pager, message boards, e-mail, etc.)
  • Playing interactive games and listening to music
  • Surfing the net for appealing websites
  • Researching schoolwork or functions of your job/profession
Now consider, if any, problems you are experiencing as a result of Internet use. Common problems I have found include:

  • Eye strain and resulting headaches
  • Back and neck pain
  • Loss of concentration and ability to read text
Of course of the latter happens, it simply best to remove yourself from the computer. For the first set of Internet uses and if you are experiencing no real advise effects, placing a simple real Aromatherapy candle next to your computer offers a nice bit of warmth to the all too often cold a dreary setting of a computer and desk. Essential oils to incorporate can include Cedar wood, Patchouli and Orange. These essential oils are suitable as they're not too calming, which can lead to less productivity in using the net.

If you find yourself suffering from any of the common computer over use effects, take a brake and seek a physicians help if they persist. You may need special glasses to cut down on glare or a better back supporting chair type. Carpal Tunnel syndrome is another awful effect of typing, so try and use an arm rest filled with gel or obtain on of the newly designed curved keyboards. Being preventive is best! Trying stretching every so often and rubbing your neck with a massage oil of Peppermint and Rosemary. This can be diluted in olive or jojoba oil. The Rosemary may also help with your memory and mental function during the use of your computer. Further helping with brain power, get a small diffuser and place a few drops of Rosemary or any favorite pure essential oil to help keep you alert throughout the day.
