INTERACTIONS: Essential Oil & Homeopathy Interactions (Part I)

INTERACTIONS: Essential Oil & Homeopathy Interactions (Part I)

An area that needs to be addressed is interactions that can be caused when essential Aromatherapy oils are used in conjunction with other forms of healing or certain pre-existing medical condition. Just as certain prescription medications, when combined or taken at the same time can cause adverse reactions... the same is true with essential oils which are highly concentrated and hold many natural chemicals.

In this article, which is one of a large set of articles dealing with such interactions, we will be taking a look at essential oils that react when used in conjunction with Homeopathy treatments. Homeopathy which is a very popular form of self treatment to many people, uses extremely dilute forms of botanicals including some poisonous ones. The liquid Homeopathy remedy is placed on little sugar pellets or pills and administered under the tongue. This allows for fast absorption of the medicine.

Essential oils which interact with ongoing Homeopathy treatments are primarily extremely pungent in scent and include;

  • Peppermint
  • Eucalyptus
  • Camphor
  • Black Pepper
These same essential oils, especially the black pepper and peppermint have been shown to cause dermal / skin irritation and eucalyptus has been shown to cause toxicity when used for extended amounts of time. These essential oils seem to react with the Homeopathy medicine, causing them not to be absorbed correctly into the system. Of course, Homeopathy is a very shaky form of natural healing with isn't fully understood nor clinically tested but one should avoid the above essential oils if they wish to use Homeopathic medicine for any extended periods of time.

In the next installment of this series, we will take a look at essential oils which can bring on Epilepsy and how people with this disorder should avoid such essential oils! Many essential oils that can bring on Epileptic seizures are hidden in commercial / over the counter products that you never thought about. If you have a loved one with Epilepsy, make sure you e-mail them this upcoming article!
