Happy Mother's Day from Paris
The nation’s “showcase butterfly” consistently reproduces on the mountain, the beautiful Diana Fritillary. Mount Magazine is one of the country’s biological “hot spots,” a garden of flying flowers.
But that’s not all. No, Mount Magazine is the only place you will find the Magazine Mountain Shagreen. What is a Shagreen? It’s a medium-size, about .5 of an inch wide and .3 of an inch high, snail. It is dusty brown in color and has a very rough shell. It ranges on the north slope of the mountain among the many rock slides that are found there.

Magnificent would be more like it. In the fall, Mount Magazine sheds her dress of different shades of green and puts on her coat of many colors. Drive down her winding mountain roads and admire the trees, Oak, Hickory, Sweet Gum, Elm, Maple, Pine and Cedar, only to mention a few.
If you’re lucky you might run onto a Muscadine vine twisted in the limbs of a very tall tree and covered with the luscious round grape-like fruit that the many residents of the mountain and area gather for their famous jellies and wines.
Look real hard, you might see a shrubby bush with tiny blue-black berries on it. It’s the famous Huckleberry. You haven’t tasted pie until you eat one made with these tiny wild blue berries.
Visit Paris in the spring? No, you say? Well then, visit Paris in the fall! Visit Paris anytime of the year. I promise you won't be disappointed.
