Certainly, many good players will be left out when you make a list like this but I have a few problems with it. First, Jay Gruden beat Kurt Warner in the ArenaBowl in 1996, Jay won 4 titles as a QB and Warner won none. In all statistical categories, Gruden beats Warner. Nobody has ever done for the AFL, the things Warner did, but all of that was AFTER leaving the AFL. At DS position, although Kenny McEntyre is the best defensive specialist in the league today, several were as good or better in their prime. Durwood Roquemore and Tommy Henry leap to mind. They are certainly better than Derek Stingley and Cecil Dogette. A huge mistake was leaving FB/LB Paul McGowan off of the list. He was a player you had to account for on every play both offensively and defensively as well as on special teams. Again I say that this is caused by the growth in recent years by the fan base, who probably weren't watching the AFL when Gruden, Henry, the "Rock", and McGowan were playing. Still, the team that was picked would probably go to the ArenaBowl easily, assuming that they played together and all were in their prime. They're good choices and I don't see anyone beating them...... .....except for MY first team picks: QB Jay Gruden OS George LaFrance FB/LB Paul McGowan OL/DL James Baron OL/DL Sam Hernandez OL/DL Sylvester Bembry WR/DB Barry Wagner WR/LB Stevie Thomas WR/DB Hunkie Cooper DS Tommy Henry DS Durwood Roquemore K Mike Black This team would be completely unstoppable. There are about 24 Championship rings on these player's fingers. Well that's about all I have for now. I'll be updating everyone monthly while we're all watching the outdoor game. The rise of the AFL continues! PredFan Go To Page: 1 2 |
