The AFL Commissioner announced that the AFL has settled the Antitrust suit pending against it in a New Jersey federal court. The settlement awaits approval by that federal court. Under the agreement the players get improved free agency, salary cap exceptions for "franchise players", player compensation, and minimum salaries. In return the league gets labor peace and a salary cap.
Also announced by the commissioner was that retired NFL coach Mike Ditka is now a part owner of the new Chicago Rush, the new expansion team in the Windy City. Both that team and the expansion Toronto team had their picks in an expansion draft last week. Finally, speaking of expansion, the league could expand to a total of 26 teams next season (2002). New orleans, Dallas, Washington, and Jacksonville will have AFL teams for that season and all of those will be owned by current NFL owners in that city. Yes, Jerry Jones will own the Dallas franchise! "The rise of the AFL continues!" PredFan Go To Page: 1
