PredFan's Mid-season Scouting Report

Here we are a little past the mid-season point. There are no longer any unbeaten teams in the league as the Orlando Predators were defeated by the Grand Rapids Rampage. Also, there are no more winless teams as the Buffalo Destroyers defeated the defending champion Albany Firebirds.

In the future this season I see the teams in this league growing closer in the rankings. The league-leading Predators are suffering from the injury bug,as is the Firebirds, the once feeble San Jose Sabercats will win most of their remaining games, the Tampa Bay Storm will comeback from struggling early, and teams like Milwaukee and Carolina seem to be ready to make a run from the bottom to the playoffs.

In the West it is a close race between the Sabercats and the Arizona Rattlers. Usually, the Rattlers own this division but they have been struggling of late and in fact trail San Jose in a tie-breaker.

In the Central it seems that Iowa is a lock but the Rampage and the Milwaukee Mustangs could come from behind and threaten. Iowa has one of the most powerful scoring machines in the league and it will be tough to unseat them.

In the South, the Predators have the stingiest defense in the league but the offense is struggling. The Nashville Kats have one more chance to avenge an earlier defeat by the Predators and possibly lead the division. The Tampa Bay Storm is coached by Tim Marcum and can never be counted out.

And in the East, the Albany Firebirds are leading but have already lost to the New England Sea Wolves and the Buffalo Destroyers, both are division rivals.

At this half way point it seems that the traditional powerhouses are giving ground while some of the newer teams are gaining. In my opinion, the traditional teams will win out in the end but there could be some new faces in the post-season crowd.

Players to watch:

Kenny McEntyre DS Orlando Predators The league leader in interceptions, 10 picks in eight games

Mike Pawlawski QB Albany Firebirds The leagues leading passer, can seemingly score at will

Hunkie Cooper WR/DB Arizona Rattlers The most dangerous active kick returner

Mike Horacek WR/DB Iowa Barnstormers Almost 1000yds receiving and 27 TDs

Sam Hernandez OL/DL Leads the league with 7 sacks

Don't blink!
