The Arena Football Playoff system

We are now close to the end of the regular season and it's time to think about the playoffs. That reminds me of another distinct difference between the AFL and the NFL.

In Arena Ball, the playoff teams are determined by a seeding system. The top eight teams, regardless of the division that they play in, makes the playoffs. In my opinion, the AFL's system is far superior to the system used by the NFL. The ultimate goal of this system is for the two top teams to play each other in the championship game. If these two best teams are in the same division, then so be it. The end result is usually, but not always, a very good ArenaBowl game. Contrast this with the NFL where the two best teams may play for the division title and then the Superbowl is a huge boring blowout. Now, I'm a fan of the NFL and I hate to say negative things about it but I wish they'd adopt the seeding system also.

This system however, is not any less complicated than trying to figure out the NFL playoff picture. With that said, here's the system:

1. Record, the eight best won-loss records. Tie breakers: 2. Head to head record 3. Point differential in head to head games 4. Win loss record in common games 5. Strength of schedule 6. Coin toss

As far as I know, it has never come down to a coin toss.
