Week 5 Review
(Home teams in caps.) Game of the Week: Las Vegas 40, NASHVILLE 32 There were some important games in the league this past weekend. Georgia barely beating Austin merited consideration for Game of the Week. This game demonstrated that no game is easy. The Force earned this victory. Or the Grand Rapids-Columbus game could have been chosen to illustrate that on any given game day--well, you get the picture. But I chose this game because it is not typical of what many perceive as the Arena game. It is, in Arena parlance, a defensive struggle. And we are starting to see some lower scores. Is it possible that coaches are figuring out how to defend in the Arena League? Las Vegas also climbs back into a first-place tie with Los Angeles (and currently owns the tie-breaker over LA). Scores: NEW ORLEANS 48, Tampa Bay 42 Recaps: Tampa Bay at New Orleans Last year's division winner hangs a second straight "L" on the Storm. New Orleans is proving to be a tough place for teams to come to for a victory. Austin at Georgia Austin came to Georgia looking to burn Atlanta much like Sherman did. The Wranglers left with respect, if not a win. Georgia retains its share of first in the Southern Division. Orlando at Chicago Orlando rebounds from loss to surprising Desperadoes. Beat Chicago at the Allstate Arena. Chicago has lost two in a row since the Rush's dramatic win at Colorado. Los Angeles at Colorado Los Angeles proves it needs to be more consistent. Still shares lead of Western Division, but road games, consistency a problem for the Avengers. Columbus at Grand Rapids The Rampage gets their first victory. Loss takes away momentum Columbus has built with gritty performance at Dallas and win against Chicago. Arizona at New York Quarterback Bonner returned and had a rough start. He settled down to bring the Rattlers back into the game, but New York again won going away. Dallas at Philadelphia Philadelphia becomes first team to fire its coach this year after a dismal home game against Dallas. The game was close in the first half, but the Desperadoes pulled away in the second half to retain first place in the Eastern Division. Week 6 Preview Game of the Week: New Orleans at Dallas New Orleans doesn't appear to be suffering any sophomore slump after going 11-5 last year. The Desperadoes are a surprise team, especially after beating Orlando and Philadelphia in consecutive weeks. The win at Philly turned out to be the worst loss in the Soul's brief history and cost Michael Trigg his job. This game could have a bearing on who hosts the conference championship.
