Week 1 Review
(Home teams in caps.) Game of the Week: DALLAS 66, Chicago 65 (OT) The battle between Tampa Bay and San Jose ended up being one-sided-with San Jose being upset at Tampa. Colorado at Orlando almost was the game of the week, with the Crush suffering a crushing defeat with a missed last second field goal attempt. But in the later game Chicago fell behind Dallas by 21 before rallying to take the lead. The game went into overtime, which in Arena football means both teams get one possession before sudden death kicks in. Dallas scored first with a touchdown and a PAT. Chicago answered with a touchdown and looked to win with a two-point conversion. Alas, the screen pass was two yards short and Dallas earned an upset victory at home. Scores: TAMPA BAY 63, San Jose 33 Recaps: San Jose at Tampa Bay This had promised to be a good game, given the success of the two teams. But from the start it was all Storm and the SaberCats purred rather than roared. This was not an auspicious start to the defense of the ArenaBowl championship for San Jose. Nashville at Columbus Nashville's return to the Arena League was a success as the Kats went on the road to destroy the Destroyers. Nashville leads the Central Division-for the moment anyway. Arizona at Grand Rapids Arizona won on the road at Grand Rapids. The Rampage didn't put up much of a fight, but the Rattlers did lose Bonner for four games and must play behind a backup QB in the interim. New Orleans at Georgia The Force played like they had a Blank check and put the hex on the VooDoo. New Orleans hopes the fade at the end of last year isn't continuing this season. Philadelphia at Austin Graziani was uncharacteristic throwing three interceptions. He had five all of last season. Yet the Soul easily defeated the Wranglers who could be in for a long year. Colorado at Orlando This was the game of the week-until the Rush failed in its two-point conversion in overtime. The Crush played the Predators tough in the Jungle. Colorado could be strong this year if they keep up this level of play. Los Angeles at Las Vegas Las Vegas takes the edge over Los Angeles playing at home. Week 2 Preview Game of the Week: Philadelphia At Chicago Philadelphia won its first game despite three Graziani interceptions. Chicago lost at the end of overtime when its two-point attempt was short. Both teams should leave this game 1-1 as the Soul still meshes with its quarterback.
