Week 3 Review
(Home teams in caps.) Game of the Week: Chicago 49, COLORADO 48 The War on I-4 (my pre-weekend choice) wasn't as competitive as I thought it would be-rare in this storied series. The game that took its place as the game of the week pitted two Central Division teams, the Chicago Rush visiting the Colorado Crush (a Rush-Crush game with a kicker named Rush kicking for the Crush against the Rush). The game was a see-saw affair in the first half but Colorado seemingly took control in the second half. The Crush had a 7 point lead and seemingly scored a touchdown, except the receiver couldn't stay in-bounds. The resulting field goal attempt missed the mark. Chicago took over and scored a TD, but missed the PAT to trail by one. Colorado then scored a TD to take an 8 point lead with under two minutes left. But this is Arenaball and the game isn't over until the final buzzer sounds. Chicago marched down and scored a TD with less than a minute to go. The two-point conversion was ruled caught out-of-bounds, leaving the Rush trailing by two. Chicago recovered an on-side kick and with three seconds left Gispert kicked the game-winning field goal. Scores: ORLANDO 61, Tampa Bay 46 Recaps: Tampa Bay at Orlando This intrastate battle is the longest rivalry in the Arena League. It is the Arena equivalent to Yankees-Red Sox, Packers-Bears, Celtics-Lakers, Ohio State-Michigan-you get the idea. Usually this is a tooth and nail fight. Which makes the convincing triumph by Orlando surprising. Los Angeles at Austin Austin was reasonably close, but LA prevailed by 2 TDs. New York at Las Vegas The Dragons blinked in this "Cities That Never Sleep Bowl." Las Vegas remains tied for first in the Western Division. Arizona at Georgia The Rattlers stumble against the Force, who are keeping pace in the rugged Southern Division. Nashville at Philadelphia Philly met a determined Kats crowd for its home opener. The Kats clawed even with the Soul for most of the game, but Philly has the Soul to prevail. Columbus at Dallas Columbus must have rested on its off-week. They led 21-6 at one point in this game and lead for most of the game. The Desperadoes pulled out a needed win to remain tied for first in the Eastern Division. San Jose at New Orleans
