MacLachlan Woodworking Museum is currently looking for Museum Interpreter, Handy Person, Collections Assistant, and Library Assistant volunteers. The MacLachlan Woodworking Museum is a community-based museum serving the Kingston area. The primary aim of this facility is to encourage the appreciation and understanding of the role of wood and woodworking technology in the development of Canada. With this intention in mind, the museum houses various exhibits illustrating nineteenth century life and changing woodworking tools and wooden objects during this period of time.

Volunteer museum interpreters at the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum present education program modules for schools and other groups providing interactive learning environments that explain and contextualize objects relating to nineteenth century life. Volunteers can choose to teach various education modules for presentation such as Candle Making; Shakes and Shingles, Spinning and Weaving; and Cabinetry and Joinery. Qualifications for potential museum interpreter volunteers include enjoying public speaking, experience working with groups of children, and an interest in history. All training and materials will be provided.

Volunteer handy persons at the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum help with a variety of small carpentry and woodworking projects in and around the museum. Qualifications for potential handy person volunteers include experience working with hand tools and an ability to follow simple project plans. All materials and equipment will be provided.

Volunteer collections assistants at the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum ensure that all artifacts at the museum are well cared for and available for study and future exhibition. Volunteers will clean, organize, catalogue, and shelve artifacts. Qualifications for potential collections assistant volunteers include careful work habits, good organizational skills, and an interest in history. All training and materials will be provided.

Volunteer library assistants at the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum ensure that all reference works at the museum are well cared for and available for study and future consultation by the staff and visiting researchers. Volunteers will clean, organize, catalogue, and shelve books. Qualifications for potential collections assistant volunteers include careful work habits and good organizational skills.
