Rock Art Archaeology Camp is a five day canoeing adventure looking at Native rock art along the Churchill River. The tour is led by Tim Jones (author of The Aboriginal Rock Paintings of the Churchill River) and a local Cree guide. Participants can expect to see rock art only accessible by canoe as well as learn about and participate in archaeological research and interpretation, listen to legends of the paintings origins and meanings, learn about ancient hunting and gathering cultures of the area.

Base camp for the tour is at a hamlet about 25 kilometers from Churchill called Missinipe, about 550 kilometers north of Saskatoon. This area is near the primary pictograph sites containing over 100 vivid and well-preserved pictographs. These drawings are located along granite outcroppings and shear rock walls. After initial paddling and safety briefing, daily trips are made from this home base to rock sites and other features of archaeological interest. These treks are all made by canoe. Other experiences include making pottery, throwing an atlatl, fire making with a bow drill, flint knapping, listening to native legends, and eating a traditional native meal.

No archaeological experience is required for this expedition. However, participants must be willing and able to canoe, swim, and hike long hours. Furthermore, housing is limited to tents and rustic cabins. Participants are required to bring their own sleeping bag. In this way, attendees must enjoy and be comfortable in the outdoors and wilderness environment.

Cost for the program is CA$1575.00 or US$1085.00. This fee includes meals; accommodation; return transportation by passenger van from Saskatoon and floatplane charter; canoe-camping equipment; archaeology interpretive program; instructor/guides; and local arrangements. This fee does not include transportation to arrive in Saskatoon; accommodations on the days of arrival and departure; meals enroute to and from Missinipi; personal travel and medical insurance; and any other personal expenses.
