Bibliotheca Alexandrina: Part I

Sadly the library no longer exists and there are few traces of its remains. It is not known with certainty the real cause of its destruction though the tales and theories range from it being charred during Caesar's war against the sibling rivals of Cleopatra in 48 B.C., to the Roman Emporer Aurelian's attack of Alexandria between 270-275 A.D. Whichever is true, historians agree that with its destruction went the source of knowledge and genius of classical civilization.
