Attack on America, Attack on American Mosques

©

On a Tuesday morning America awoke to the reality of tragedy that more commonly afflicts war-torn parts of the world. Since then much has been done to restore and rebuild the nation. But the bloodshed and destruction in America did not end with the horrible events of September 11. The innocent victims are still being counted, and not just those in the rubble of the Trade towers. Some of our buildings and cultural symbols are still crumbling, and not just those directly hit in New York.

New York City may have been the epicenter of this attack but the aftershocks are still being felt across the US and even around the world. The attack on America awoke a present ignorance and hatred of the real Islam, shared by both the perpetrators of this vicious crime and the minority of Americans that believe they can avenge these deaths by taking the lives of more innocents. Both groups know little of the true Islamic religion and both groups arrogantly refuse to learn. The terrorists not only hijacked airplanes but they hijacked Islam and because of the twisted version they are presenting to the world, the new target of hate in this country is the American Mosque. The mosque as a place of gathering and a clear visual presence of Muslims in America has become the focus of those looking to strike back at the enemy in a way they know would hurt. Those committing these sort of hate crimes dont seem to realize that they are only hurting more Americans and giving the terrorists more satisfaction.

Reports of Attacks on Mosques in US:

The following are links to recent articles on Mosques and other buildings attacked since the September 11 attack. These attacks have ranged from graffiti to arson and firebombing. This is by no means a comprehensive list but it gives an idea of the kind of hate crimes being committed and the need for Muslims and non-Muslims to create more dialogue and understanding to curb the ignorance that leads to these sort of crimes.
