Alternative News Sources on the Middle East

There are a number of news sources coming out of the Middle East from a variety of Arab countries. This article will highlight a few well known sources, and also mention some lesser known ones that might not be so easily found. Al-Ahram is an excellent source of news that has been around since 1875. You can read the online English weekly version of Al-Ahram at: http://www.ahram.org.eg/weekly/2002/585/... You can also subscribe to their weekly newsletter. Another source for news on the Arab world is Arabia.com. This website is one of the leading Arab world Internet sites. Their content channels cover a broad range of topics with continuous news, sports, and business coverage as well as in-depth and entertaining lifestyle, books, music, and movies content. Moving over to Yemen, there's The Yemen Times at http://www.yementimes.com/ which, according to them, is the only available English weekly news service online. Their news seems to be mainly focused on Yemen but there are some articles on other countries.

If you can read Arabic, there's the Qatari based Al Jazeera satellite channel website at wwwlaljazeera.net and also Al-Watan daily newspaper, the internet edition, at http://www.al-watan.com/. Another Yemeni newspaper,Al-Ayyam, which is only in Arabic can be found at http://al-ayyam-yemen.com/

Khaleej Times, the "No.1 English language daily newspaper published from Dubai, United Arab Emirates" covers the Arab world and beyond. Their website is at http://www.khaleejtimes.co.ae/ Another source for news on the Gulf region is Gulf News, the "leading English language newspaper of the United Arab Emirates." Their online version can be found at www.gulfnews.com. From Lebanon, there's Beirut Times International at http://www.beiruttimes.com/news/ Thehir foreign correspondents cover news and information from, Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen and the League of Arab States. For Arabic readers, there's As-safir Newspaper daily at http://www.assafir.com./iso/today/front/... From Oman, there's the Oman Arabic Daily at http://www.omandaily.com. This online newsource is entirely in the Arabic language. For English readers there's Oman Daily Observer at http://www.omanobserver.com. The Oman Daily Observer is Oman's largest circulated English daily newspaper. The online version contains sections on business, sports, local and world news among other sections.
