Arabic/Islamic Calligraphy: Treasure for the Eyes and Soul (#2)

*** Continued from part 1

In the name of God, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Read: in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created, Created man out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood; Read: and thy lord is Most Bountiful, He Who taught (the use of) the Pen, Taught man that which he knew not

Thus, Islamic calligraphy is highly regarded in the Arab and Muslim world because it honors the Islamic ideals of literacy, knowledge and strength of faith in an aesthetically pleasing, and religiously acceptable form. It is the ultimate expression of God’s words--using the power of the pen to convey religious knowledge and moral teachings. God created man, and gave him the ability to think and learn. Arabic/Islamic Calligraphy is a beautiful, spiritual manifestation of that ability; a treasure for both the eyes and the soul.

*NOTE: To view the work of a well known calligrapher by the name of Mamoun Sakkal, please see Sakkal Design. Other artists include Hassan Massoudy, and Nihad Dukhan.
