After all, performing music is what he does best. And this performer takes his music very seriously. At the age of twelve, he reportedly sold his bicycle to buy a Oud (Arabic guitar). He was classically trained in the prestigious Baghdad Musical Institute, and started out as a songwriter for other Iraqi artists. Now, Al Saher writes most of his material, as he continues to successfully blend classical Western music with Arabic folk music. He refuses to simply use synthesizers to imitate the sounds of various instruments as many do. In fact, Al Saher, who is known as a perfectionist, often brings musicians into the studio to play even the tiniest section on a flute or piccolo. He also reportedly tours with a 35-man orchestra. His perfectionism has certainly been appreciated. He plays in sold out concerts around the world, has sold well over 10 million copies of his albums in the last twelve years, and continues to sell very well. With his exceptional talent, his charisma and tremendous appeal to audiences, we will surely be hearing Kathem Al Saher's name and voice for many years to come.
