Online Aquarium Chat Rooms and Resources

Several years ago, the most popular way to locate and purchase fish for your aquarium was by going down to one of the local fish stores and taking a browse through the many species in the aquariums that they had on site. With the massive increase in online browsing, more and more aquarists are turning to the internet to locate species - both common and specialty - to order for their personalized aquarium. Unfortunately, many of the fish wholesale sites don't give you a good picture of the species that you are interested in. Additionally, you will rarely find information about some of the specifics of each species - something that may come in very handy when selecting the inhabitants of your aquarium. So where does this leave the average person? Luckily there are many sites and chat areas about aquariums that can allow you to find someone out there who has experience with the species that you are interested in. I have always valued first-hand knowledge, and such sites are really the way to go if you have a particular species of fish in mind.

Before continuing, I must add that I have always been a strong advocate of creating a good relation between yourself and the local fish store. The extra money you pay locally (remember too that shipping and handling at the internet sites can really add up) goes towards more than the product or species - there is a certain level of responsibility of the fish store to inform you of the proper care and maintenance of the hardware or species that you have purchased. If you find that this is not the case, then it is time to bring your business elsewhere. Such support will rarely be supplied online, thus you should take advantage of it at your local fish store. My experiences have shown me that most fish store owners are in it for the love of the hobby, and they are more than happy to spend a little time with someone who in interested and wants to provide the best care for their aquarium.

In any event, sometimes the magnitude of money that you can save can make online purchasing worth your while. Additionally, this is often the only way that you will be able to locate a dealer that supplies the specific part or species you are interested in. This being the case, a great way to locate fish, aquarium components, and good dealers it by finding first-hand knowledge. The place to do this is at links such as:
