The last step is to trim the excess liner from the edges of the pond. Remember to leave about 6" length around the pond since the liner may continue to sink and conform to the pit. The sides of the pond can then be covered with pebbles, stones, turf or any other material that you have chosen. Once you have done so, begin to assemble to filtration system and any other components that you have purchased.
I did not find any information about how long you should wait to introduce fish, but I assume that similar rules apply here as you have for aquariums. I imagine that it is a good idea to wait a day or two after you have set up the pond for the water temperature to stabilize and to make sure that everything is functioning correctly. As a good rule of thumb, you should limit the number of fish in the pond to no more than 1 inch of fish per 3 gallons of water. As I find out more about pond aquariums I will consider writing another follow-up article that gives a bit more information about pond maintenance, etc..... As I stated in the first article, the above information is only what I have gained through a few weeks of research. I recommend that if you are serious about starting a pond aquarium that you supplement what I have written here with additional information to make sure I have not left out any important information.
