The last type of food is actually something that you have little control over. This is natural food. Natural food consists of the micro (and macro) organisms in the aquarium. As an example, consider algae. Many fish, especially in reef aquariums, will supplement their diet by feeding on the natural micro-organisms in the aquarium. About the only thing that you need to do to promote this type of feeding is create good water environments in your aquarium. The organisms will grow naturally, and serve a very useful purpose in the aquarium.
I find that most people know fairly well what to feed their fish. Usually the fish store is more than happy to supply this information since it means you will most likely purchase something additional from them. If you have gained any knowledge from this article, I hope it is that there are some concerns you should be aware of when using certain types of food. As a last comment, let me just mention again overfeeding. This happens a lot, and usually it just leads to deteriorated water quality. However, if large amounts of food are fed to the fish on a continued basis, water quality can get terribly out of control. Make sure that you do not overfeed. If you are feeding more than once a day you may need to cut back. If you enjoy watching your fish eat twice a day, then try to reduce the amount of food you introduce. This will help you keep a healthier aquarium and your fish will be a lot happier.
