The County Fair

I love the fair.

There are few things as enjoyable on a mid-summer's afternoon as walking around at the fair and looking at the young steers the local kids raised. You can almost learn to dance by watching where to step. And the smell! You know you're in the country when you're at the fair.

The county fair has a lot to offer: how else would we know whose tomatoes were the biggest, whose jelly was the best? But of all the things which make the county fair a treat today, music is one of best. And this year, county fairs in Appalachia have a lot to offer, musically.

What follows is a sampling of just who will be at the small town and county fairs in the Appalachian region. Take notes and check out the ones near you...
