Chattanooga is probably Tennessee's most scenic, most attractive city. And besides the city itself, Chattanooga is surrounded by a host of things to see in the surrounding countryside.

Among the area's attractions, Rock City is perhaps the best known. Their webpage gives surfers some idea of the physical beauty of the site and the necessary details for visiting Rock City.

Another fairly well-known attraction in the area is Ruby Falls. The "spectacular 145-foot waterfall" is coupled with a "panoramic view from the Lookout Mountain," according to their web site.

Less well known is the Chattanooga Nature Center & Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic. The Center looks like a great bargain if you're looking for a place to take the family for a look at nature (and the problems man can cause for it).

Another possible nature trip is the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. The aquariam has "more than 9,000 animals representing 575 species of fish, jellyfish, crustaceans, mussels, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals," according to its web site. The aquarium "tells the story of fresh water ecosystems." It also traces the Tennessee River from its sources through the the Mississippi River and into the Gulf of Mexico.

A Little History...

Several History attractions exist in and around Chattanooga. The Medal of Honor Museum is perhaps the most unique. One of the most popular is the Battlefield Tours of Civil War battles sites around Chattanooga; nearby Lookout Mountain was among the Civil War's most important battles.

Education

The city and surrounding area has a handful of colleges and universities. Among them, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the historic University of the South. In nearby North Georgia, Covenant College is run by the Presbyterian Church of America.

Although it is not a college, the Scenic Land School specializing in students with learning disabilities is another special feature of education in Chattanooga.

Some Churches:

If you're thinking of visiting the city over a weekend, there are several area churches with web pages. Among them:

Chattanooga also has a nice art museum: Hunter Museum of America Art

The city's main newspaper, the Chattanooga Times, has a nice daily web site.
