Bedroom:
When you first get into your dorm or apartment, there usually is no lamps for the bedroom. The kitchen and bathroom usually have built-in fluorescent overhead lights, but, typically, the other rooms do not have lights. You can find lamps everywhere. If you are crafty, you can put your lamp together with kits at Michaels and other craft retailers. If you want dirt-cheap lamps, browse around some local garage and estate sales. You can always buy a new shade for an old antique lamp.
Bed sheets range in quality (which also correlates to price). Egyptian cotton sheets are more expensive but they are very soft. Jersey sheets are also soft. The larger sizes (King and Queen) will cost about double than the Twin size.
During the colder months, having a blanket is wonderful (not to mention it will save your electricity bill as you turn down the thermostat). Get a versatile blanket that can be washed in the wash machine. Avoid blankets that shed or has tassels that may get caught in things.
You definitely need a pillow. The more expensive pillows are stuffed with goose down feathers (which should be avoided if you are allergic). To make your pillows last longer, cover with special pillow protection covers that go underneath the pillowcase.
Utilities:
Laundry sorters makes it easier for you to separate your clothes by color and wash load, thereby saving time. Keep one next to your machine or in your bedroom and just toss in the clothes until your next load. Go To Page: 1 2
