De-clutter the Kitchen:

  • Your kitchen drawers should be organized by utility. One drawer should contain all the silverware and plastic utensils. Another drawer should contain serving utensils and special tools (like measuring spoons). Line these drawers with shelf paper or drawer liner for easy cleaning.
  • Place all your silverware into a plastic flatware holder. Check out this cutlery holder from Eckerd: http://www.eckerd.com/storefront/product... .
  • Toss old condiment packets.
  • If your kitchen has spare drawers, use one for dish cloths and one for recipe booklets.
  • Keep boxes of cling wrap, foil wrap, or wax paper on top of your refrigerator.
  • Invest in a hanging towel paper holder (you can get a cheap one for about $2) and hang up your towel paper roll.
  • Store unused kitchen appliances (such as coffee grinders) in the cabinets. Toss old appliance boxes. Keep manufacturer’s warranties.
  • Toss old fast food cups you don’t use.
  • Use a lot of plastic utensils? Invite a lot of people over to eat? Invest in a silverware holder – a plastic box with sections for the utensils and a section for napkins. This will keep all your stuff organized.
  • Plan to do a lot of cooking? Get a utensil holder. Target has a very compact one at http://www.target.com/common/catalog/pro... .

De-clutter the Bedroom:

  • Keep spare sheets and pillowcases in a dresser drawer if you don’t have a linen closet or place them in a plastic storage box under the bed.
  • High-quality photo boxes (with the label holders in the front) make great storage boxes for all sorts of odds and ends. Plus, they are easy to label!
  • Toss socks with holes.
  • Store winter clothes in plastic storage boxes under bed or in closet.
  • Hang ties and scarves on special tie hangers. Or you can make your own: wrap pieces of masking tape around a hanger at two inch intervals as shown in this picture:

De-clutter the Bathroom:

  • Keep sample products in a small box.
  • Toss anything that leaks or has expired.
  • Toss old prescriptions and expired over-the-counter drugs.
  • Keep the bathroom cleaning products in the closet or cabinet for easy access.
  • Invest in a hanging shower organizer that fits over the shower head. (Home Depot sells a wire shower caddy in various sizes that will fit any shower head.) (Container Store sells a nifty corner shelf you can install. See it at http://www.containerstore.com/browse/Pro... )
  • Do you have a pile of magazines in the bathroom? Get a magazine rack or use a large basket.
  • Hang a shelf over the toilet for toiletries, perfumes/colognes, and other stuff. Get one with a towel holder to hold extra clean towels.
