Use the regular washing cycle for most loads. Use delicate washing cycle for fragile fabrics, special knits, lace and lingerie, and easily-torn clothes (silks, rayons, lace, etc). If the tag says dry clean, you should use a special dry cleaning kit or take the piece to a dry cleaner to avoid tearing the fabric, weakening the seams, or ruining the piece. Permanent Press setting is good for synthetic fabrics and to prevent wrinkling.

Fabric softeners (which soften fabrics and reduces static) should be added during the rinse cycle of the wash.

Remove clothes as soon as possible to prevent that moldy smell that will form on your clothes overnight.

Drying:
Adjust the dryer for the time and temperature you will need as determined by load and user’s manual. Add a dryer sheet (anti-static sheet) to every load to be dried. Do not reuse dryer sheets.

Some items require line drying. Read the label to determine whether you need to hang the piece to dry. There are several drying devices on the market for drying clothes. One device sits across the bathtub and the item is stretched over a screen. Another method is hanging the item over the shower rod. If your landlord allows, you can hang sheets and towels on a line across your patio/porch. It’s a good idea to lay sweaters flat on a drying screen in order to prevent reshaping.

Remove your clothes from the dryer as soon as you can after it stops. Otherwise, the clothes will get wrinkled again and you will have to re-run your drying load. If you need to re-run your drying load, select air dry if possible to minimize shrinkage or long-term damage.
