Questions from ReadersCushman book Hi, I found your website doing a web search. I have an antique armoire that I don't know much about. I wonder if it is a Beidermier? I'd really appreciate it if someone would take a look at the link below with the photos and info. Also I can email the photos if you need me to. (Since I think they are clearer in email). Thanks. Antique Armoire I believe that this armoire is an example of Art Nouveau style from the turn of the century - 1895 to 1910 or early 1920's. The origin of the style is French, and although the armoire might have been manufactured in France, it is more likely by a US manufacturer. Without being able to see it in person, I can't tell you its value or determine whether it is worth your while to do major refinishing. However, if you decide to refinish it, I would strongly recommend a professional do the work especially where there has been damage from children carving into the wood. Pieces of this size, age, and style can be found anywhere from the $900 to $2000 range, depending on condition and origin. It looks like a very nice design, although not as elaborate as some from that period. Good luck on your decision! Barbara I want to point out to all my readers that while I enjoy answering your questions, you'd really learn so much by doing the research yourselves. If you are really stumped, then contact me. However, the books I recommend as well as the Web searches will provide you with a long-lasting pleasure and help you enjoy your antiques much more.
