Among the many forms of collecting which revolve around film and Hollywood in its golden era, collecting posters is easily the most popular. Posters have been used to advertise coming attractions for nearly 100 years. Because, like all ephemera, the longevity and survivability of a paper poster is a poor prospect, original posters are usually not inexpensive. Condition is, of course, the prime consideration in determining value.
Only a few very rare posters are valuable regardless of condition, and these are the posters made to appear IN a movie. Often they are an integral part of the story, as in a movie about Hollywood, or a circus, or the theater. Posters would be created as props, with fictitious information. These posters are collected today as a niche category and are very hard to find.
